Sessions with Oi Yee Tai
These are one-on-one Chinese Calligraphy Tutorials/ Sessions. I would like to give you all the attention you need, and also cater to your level.
I will be teaching you how to write Chinese characters with brush and ink. Chinese writing dates back to thousands of years ago. Chinese characters evolved from pictographs to more abstract ideograms to the modern-day form. They are divided into 3 main categories : pictographs , ideograms , phonograms . Each character is a word by itself, and is written in a flowing and balanced way. As this writing system has been adopted by the Japanese and Koreans,the Chinese character is written in the same way as the Japanese Kanji and Korean Hanja.
If you are an absolute beginner, I will introduce you to the materials needed, and start you on the basic strokes first.
If you already know Chinese calligraphy and only need some advice, assessment or critique, you can also enrol in a single session as the need arises.
If you already are practising Chinese ink painting or sumi-e, but have no knowledge of Chinese calligraphy, don't worry. You have an advantage over others as you are already familiar with using the brush with ink on rice paper. You will find that you have already been using some of the calligraphy strokes in your painting.
The sessions will be interactive instead of strict mundane lessons. I will be demonstrating the strokes and different styles, and you can immediately start trying and I will guide you along the way.
The calligraphy sessions will be online private tutorials delivered from my studio in Canada to anywhere in this world. It will be one-on-one 60 minutes per session.
Cost: US$60 per single session (60 minutes one-on-one tutorial)
Package of 5 sessions for US$250 (60 minutes one-on-one tutorial) If you have your own little group or family and would like to take the lessons together, contact me for special rates

The following shows how the online session is set up. You will be sent a link which you can join with your phone or computer.
It would help if you also set up your camera to show your work. You can use just one camera, and just focus on your work, or if you like, you can join with 2 cameras for both face to face and showing how you work. If you want to use 2 cameras and do not know how, I can email you the instructions.
